DEFIBRILLATION A.E.D.
The
next stage up from resuscitation, when we use chest compressions
to circulate the blood, is the use of a defibrillator. Compressions
of the heart do not restart the heart , only the use of a defibrillator
will enable the heart to restart, and this must be used within
10 minutes of the heart ceasing to beat. The main causes of cardiac
arrest are electrical injury, heart attack, prolonged asphyxia and hypothermia.
